Get Paid For Living Near Work in Northwest Detroit
Introducing a new home ownership and renovation incentive program in the heart of Northwest Detroit
If you work in and around the neighborhoods of Harmony Village, Winship, College Park, Crary/St. Mary’s, Bethune, and others, you may be eligible for up to $10,000 to purchase a new home or renovate an existing home near work.
Eligibility and Program Incentive Areas
To see if you qualify, review the Participant Eligibility Area on the interactive program map and enter your employer’s address, and see if your employer falls within the eligibility area.
Next, to see where you can use the incentive award to purchase or renovate your home, review the Program Incentive Area on the program map.
Program Guidelines and Application
The Live Local Program is available to full-time employees of employers within the Participant Eligibility Area, as well as full-time students and recent alumni of Wayne County Community College District Northwest Campus. Recent alumni are defined as having graduated within 12 months of application date. A full-time employee is defined as working at least 30 hours per week, or 120 hours per month.
See if you qualify based on the Eligibility and Incentive Area Map above. Applicants may only apply for one of the two incentive programs below. Program incentives are limited and based on the availability of funds.
New Home Purchase Incentive
New homeowners can receive a one-time incentive amount up to $10,000 towards the cost of purchasing a home within the program home incentive area. The amount of incentive awarded is determined based on the applicant’s income.
Live Local participants are required to participate in a new homebuyers education course or workshop before receiving the awarded incentive. Participants are highly encouraged to enroll in Southwest Solutions's free Homebuyer Education workshop, offered monthly online.
Existing Home Renovation Incentive
Existing homeowners in the program home incentive area can receive a one-time incentive amount up to $10,000 towards the cost of exterior home repairs. The amount of incentive awarded is determined based on the applicant’s income.
The Live Local program, launched in 2021 through the generous support of the Ballmer Group and DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, is managed through the Sinai-Grace Guild CDC. This program is designed to support new homeownership, encourage residential growth in the neighborhoods, and spur local investment.
Sinai-Grace Guild CDC is a nonprofit serving the Winship, College Park, Crary/St. Mary’s, Hubbell-Puritan, Belmont, Bethune, Harmony Village, and Schulze neighborhoods. Driven by our community residents, businesses, and leaders, the Sinai-Grace Guild Community Development Corporation is committed to holistic and equitable revitalization toward a thriving, healthy, and sustainable Northwest Detroit.
